Hey kids. It's another episode of Beyond the Podcast in 1984. Wow. I just recorded my second episode, and you know what? It didn't even come out. So I'm doing it again. I'm going to keep it short and sweet and concise. That sucks. I just played it back. Sounds like garbage. The first episode did come out, so today's episode I'm sorry about slasher films. I wanted to start it out with that. From Sunday night to yesterday, Wednesday afternoon, I watched the first four sleepaway Camp films, which I absolutely love. I don't get to say the first one is the best. It's a classic all time classic man, and it's very ahead of its time. I'd say four. You know, the uniqueness of the killer played by Lisa Rose, who at the time was pretty young. If you haven't seen it, you might want to skip this. I do love looking forward to this for maybe like a minute. So I will connect the three and I will say what it is. Because if you've never seen it, I mean, if you don't prepare, it doesn't really matter. But if you do and you don't know what you want to know, the secret of the kill or you know why and all that stuff. Then you might want to skip it. It's a one, two, three. Everybody at CNN knows that at the end has revealed that he is in fact, he would they want to see transgendered? Definitely. I would say ahead of its time, because you didn't really have a lot of ones like that, at least in slasher horror films. I mean, you have dressed to kill. You know, like the drag or whatever. But anyways, no, it's a great movie. The original Sleepaway Camp is a classic. I watch an a Blu ray of the first one because I also have the survival kit, which came out years ago. Three DVD set with one, two and three. And then it also has a bone as the survivor. And I haven't watched it. And apparently all it is, it's the production footage. And from what I understand, a lot of the movie is just flashbacks. And I was looking for the movie to buy it and I found it and it was like really expensive. I don't know. I guess it just hasn't got good distribution or maybe because a lot of people just don't like it, I don't know. So I watched part one and then part two is Teenage Wasteland, and the third one is, no, I'm sorry. I see my brain is not working because I have to repeat myself here. Okay. Sleepaway camp to sleepaway camp to unhappy campers. Sleepaway camp three teenage wasteland. And return to sleepaway camp. They're all fun. But anyways, one, two and three are in that said and increments of that, you know, for the bonus desk and a little g card and stuff like that. First one I love. It's creepy. It's bleak. It's just kind of it's not really like a super downbeat movie, but it's just, you know, a lot of it has to do with bullying and stuff, which I notice as a theme. It seems like all of one, especially the fourth one. The second one was pretty good. A little more humor in it. And it's funny because Pamela Springsteen takes on the role. Bruce Springsteen, the younger sister that plays Angela the killer. And of course, we see or you know, we all know who she is, but she is in the movie, so it's not spoil anything. Then she comes back in the third one wearing a wig. Looks really cute. Now onto third one is definitely a lot more goofy and kind of ridiculous. And I had a lot of homages to the Slasher films, But it's fun. It's a fun movie. I liked it. Not as much as like when I saw it before, but twice in the past. And then the fourth one was just one of the most annoying encourages ever this bullied kid. It's like kind of big guy. It's like you just beat the crap out of the people, make it funny. But anyways, he's got emotional problems. It wasn't bad. They're really new girls. And I had a laugh because it's like Rory is supposed to be. There's like a lot of nudity, which surprised me the fourth one. And like I said, I would not watch the survivor I my Wednesdays watch the production footage. But also, I mean, it's cool that they included it, but I don't know if I do, I'll get back to you on it. But anyways, the whole so the whole theme of this episode is talking about the genre like slasher films, which I'm a huge fan of. And I did ask myself a few days ago why do I like this stuff? It's just people being stalked and killed, you know? And I was like, really thinking about it, not to put myself down or put down any other horror fans. Why? Why? You know, why do I enjoy it? And I think, well, because I like the thrills, though. And they're fun, you know? And I've liked slasher films since I was a kid and, you know, and it all started with the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre when I was three years old, and I don't remember a lot of it, but I remember, you know, my mom, the guy who was named after, took us. And that's a long story. Anyways, I love the original. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is actually my favorite horror film of all time. I love the second one, so I've only different, you know, a lot more black humor, kind of wacky, but I love it. I love that movie. And the third one, Leatherface, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, another big favorite. First time I saw like ads. All right. I liked it. I really do like that movie. I need to get that one on Blu ray. I do. I love it. And the fourth one, the New Generation is pretty cheesy, very bad. But at the same time it's entertaining. And I will say I think it's better than all the other Texas Chainsaw massacres that came out. I mean, I own Chainsaw Woods. It was just called Chainsaw. I don't even remember. See, I don't care. Call me shallow. The only reason I get to do that snore fest was the hired girl, the maid, the lead actress was hot. And, I mean, the reason was kind of cool in it, but it's like, always been done in the movies were for 40 years down in a sewer. And he comes out and I do a dumb movie. I mean, I'm sure it's better than all the other ones that came out, which I have no interest in. They did that new, new one, like what, about a year ago? And it's 42. Still hasn't come out on DVD or Blu ray. I really don't care. I just about everybody I talked to said it's a piece of crap. And then they did one right before that. how he becomes leather face on my Jesus. I don't mind the the so-called remake, although I will be honest with you on the reason I could sit through the first time I saw it is seeing Jessica Biel in a sleeveless sweaty her. And I watched a lot of that movie on Fast Forward but I ended up getting it later. And you know I like adds all right this to me it reminds me or like saw those are my yeah I actually do like the prequel though the beginning for some reason I actually really enjoy that film because it's not some total remake, but I like that one. But anyways, why am I even mentioned about? Because the original is my favorite horror film. But that's a very special film and I don't think you really call a slasher. But anyways, so there's like a lot of other films in Aja that I love. There's name a bunch. Friday the 13th. You know, if I want to be really strict here, I'm going to see one through. Four are very beloved to me. Halloween one and two. I love stage Fright from Italy a.k.a Aquarius a.k.a. Bloody Bird Freaking Love that movie so much. It's like been a huge fan of for a long time and what else is the original? I get tired of seeing the original, but a lot of these movies have gone to remakes and you know, a lot of them I think, stink. That's just my opinion. I mean, blind. But like, you know, when I when I've seen these movies, I'm talking about the originals. So keep that in mind. Alright, man, talk about the remakes, maybe a few here and there that I like, but I barely anyways, like My Bloody Valentine prom night. I'm trying to remember now. Intruder, that one I was obsessed with seeing for a year. That's the one where the killer is at the grocery store. The last night. They're going to be clues and so they're asking people to work overtime and anyways, that's that's a great film. I read that old, weird, great margin of it, which describes Bruce Campbell as being the lead character, which he's not. But so that was stupid. That's what I rather get the DVDs because it was kind of dumb and it's just, my God, Anyways, I never get any. I don't even have references here, but Scream Factory or whatever it was. But anyways, that Blu ray DVD of Intruder, which way superior than that, that stupid gray marsh it which may not be a great but I think it is. But anyways if I had it I could tell you what company put it out get the you know, the newer one they put out years ago and of course the burning is I love the burning property. You just wow, that's like one of my all time favorites. The final tear that I don't know. It's more like a survival horror film, but, you know, it's kind of a sort of slasher, I thought. And I got the next all my other films, but there's like, a lot of stuff, man, that I really, really love. I didn't take notes cause I didn't. I was thinking about this earlier. I was like, you know, for this show, I should take notes. It could be more coherent. There's a lot of films like that. And I just said Halloween one to deny. I love the original Halloween one and two, I actually, like Rob Zombie's versions, identify. The first time I saw Halloween, I was like, my brother was like, You got to admit, that's a little better than the original. I was like, Buddy, you step into holy ground right there. But I do like it now. I mean, I watched it again two years ago in fact, around right before the actual Halloween bought the steelbook of Halloween one and dude Rob Zombie's version. I like those. I like I love Rob Zombie's films. I still need to watch the Monsters speaking to him. I've had it for months and I keep forgetting I have it. I just need to find the right time on it, you know? I'm not expecting the greatest about it, but whatever, you know, I'm going to watch it. I mean, I'll watch anything Rob Zombie does. I'm a fan. I love early white Zombie, too. I'm a big fan of that band, like all their stuff. But mainly they're, you know, the earlier stuff like Soul Crusher. But anyways, that's all for another time, man. man. Okay, there's some other films like I Love the Media Later, I watched that on YouTube years ago. I end up buying Arrow Films is really helped me. I like I'm not under moaning like that. I mean, I hope like all of their Sunday movies, I wish they did. It would be awesome. So I blown a lot of money buying their films, but anyways, they put out the meta later. I get that. I really liked that one. It's kind of cracks me up. It's it's like a very simple going after, you know, his son and all his friends and they're like in a secluded beachfront property area and he's killing them with different types of implements. It's a classic and it's not a spoiler. And either I didn't that's what the film's about. It even said that on the back of the description of the film. But there's a meta later. The other one, I don't know if you really want to go for a kind of maybe one. I didn't care for the first time I saw it. I'd heard about it for years. I watched it in a minor. I took a chance about it, the Blu ray special edition of Slayer. And you know what? That was really cool. I actually really liked. I was like, Wow, this is way to what I remember. But it was really it was entertaining and really creepy. And I'd love to throw a deep red in there. I know it's a giallo, but it's kind of kind of got slasher elements, you know, like stage fright. That's kind of a shallow feel to it, but that's definitely way, way slasher, you know, the killer and the oversize owl mask. I love that frickin movie. The ending is like, what the heck? And there's this crazy man every time I watch it or rewind it, I'm like, Wow, That's like, is that real? Is this supposed to be a nightmare? But anyways, it is. And my brother, one time I gave him I actually gave him my DVD because I wanted I wanted to turn him on of that. I ended up buying the Blu ray, but I loved that for a good movie. okay. You know, do you want to get into like, the weird slasher stuff is one of the greatest films of all time to me. And I praise Grindhouse releasing for putting out the I have the I got to Blu ray one CD soundtrack set, but pieces of interesting pieces. You know, you don't know what your ID for. That movie is so awesome and ridiculous. Some say, What the hell? And it was really cool finally seeing it. When I get the Blu ray, I watched it. I was able to finally see it. I watched it in Spanish as funny too, because it's supposed to take place in Massachusetts and it was a shot and then it was shot in Spain, I believe. And even at the beginning of it, there's a photo. They get over the laugh of this phone is like, dial the phone. It didn't even exist. It's like it was really like, you know, World War Two or someone's laughing. So it's a really odd, odd, odd movie. And I fricking love it. It's just I've been a fan of that for since like 87 or so, but it's like, you don't need to be a Texas star about Chainsaw Massacre. That's frickin hilarious. Pieces is just so great. Movie is exactly what you think it is. It's awesome. It is is ridiculous. I got to see is crazy a pieces is great. Another really oddball one as Wade Abbott. I was the top of my favorites is don't go in the woods someone is is cricket hilarious. I make jokes sometimes it's my dad and I can tell you that the beard and this is a crazy looking guy and I wish they could do the sequel, but I don't know. The director seems like a really old old guy now, and he's just a he's a true gentleman and a really fun, cool guy. I watch interviews with him and this is a great movie is absolutely ridiculous. It's just the dialog is terrible the way it's shot. There's a scene where characters are talking and you can't even see them. It's almost like they took a cue from like some like some of these martial arts films, like, Hey, you, you get up, Hey, bastard, let's see. You'll try it. And you don't even see about the camera at all. So the camera zooms in and there they are, pulled back and there they are, like this, like, pretty bad. But anyways, it's a great get a terrible theme song. It's really fun. And I have actually had fantasies of like seeing and the whole the guy, can I, can I make the seat warmer? It's like, you know, this reeks of that. I think it'd be great to see a sequel to that because it's a classic, but it's like if they did it, they'd have to be, you know, just crazy because the original is is it's great, man. It's awesome. But I like all kinds of stuff. And I know in a slasher genre thrillers, there's a lot all the same, you know, video, Black Christmas, the original. I'm not even going to say anything. I had kind of a not really a rant about the other two, but I don't give a crap. I have nothing right now. I may talk about some other time. Maybe I'll do an episode of Rambo fans or something. It was the original. Black Christmas is an all time classic, and if you're a fan of Halloween and you haven't seen Black Christmas, well, you should do some homework and go watch it, I believe is 1974, and it's a creepy fricking movie. Hello, Black Christmas. So I just I love it. I end up getting that. I think it was my birthday. No, it was. I don't remember it. And I was on my birthday. It might have been last Christmas. I was getting some money and I asked my my I cool my step mom. Hey, can we stop all the best buy in a bind like Return of the Living Dead? It was like the 4K size Blu ray. And then I got a Black Christmas and a few other movies. But anyways, it was a joy watching that again. Really nice, really select, classic masterpiece. It's a masterpiece of my opinions. Gary Amadeo computer is absolutely beautiful and I was like, my God, this blue, beautiful, that husky voice, or she plays a drunken Aziz's Olivia has these lovely. It's it's just a great you know, it's, it's definitely to me, it's one of the blueprints. The one I could not believe that I didn't mention. So my brain is a little more clear now. Blood and black lace by the legendary Mario Bava is probably one of the very first I just said White Christmas or Blue Bird. Well, it was kind of a blueprint for that particular type of horror. You know, the creepy killer breathing heavily and sneaking around and killing people, blood and black lace is just it's a classic. That's definitely one of the greatest. I wanted it for years and I finally just die. Got it. Once again, I end up buying the Blu ray of it, and I really enjoyed it. I mean, really cool. It's good. You know, it's kind of like the forerunner to a lot of like early, I would say, you like giallo. Now you watch that and then you kind of see a little bit of like deep red or I don't really want to see Suspiria, but, you know, definitely, definitely deep red, which is another one that's definitely giallo. But it's got the elements, you know, Sneaky killer. I think I read that very of the final terror. So I'm kind of my brain is not working right. But anyways, the final terror it's more of a survival horror film but it's it's got the elements. It's a really crazily weird killer. And it's just the ending is like nuts. It's really great. And it's like, it's definitely different and they're not a spoiler. But what happens when you get, you know, you see your give me work away. They're like these four rangers and they actually kill. What surprised me is main characters that I fear would be in a whole movie get killed early on. It's not a super Gore fest doesn't really have a giant body count, but it's really good. The killer is really weird and just takes place in the deep woods. And I frickin love it. I love the final terror. It's just awesome for other horror films like that. it like that boy. Billy, can you. God, that's kind of going into the genre of video, which I'm going to talk about. I might have good ideas. I'm going to be taking notes right now and stuff, so I could be a little more coherent. This is definitely a lot more coherent than my last episode. That is, does the genre really enjoy? I've liked since I was a kid and among some of my favorite types of films. And of course, you know, the other ones I've mentioned. I guess if I horror sci fi, I like all the different genres of horror films, gory splatter, you know, this bunch of stuff, you know, And of course the last three years or so and I, I guess I'm kind of change of gears here in my subject matter with still with movies. But as I've definitely broadened my horizons, I haven't done it on purpose. I think it's a couple of years ago Walmart used to have that ever years that a $5 Blu ray ban. So I started just like, Hey, it just looks interesting. It's only $5 when to get it. So I started checking out a bunch of the stuff and then, you know, you got money in your pocket and you're like, No, I'm going to I got to buy something then like that. In the past, not as much now, but I know movies like The Green Book and Hair and Device, all these movies are kind of took a chance on and are really good. A lot of them were more like kind of crime slash thrillers. And then you got action tropes. I found that I like a whole lot of different stuff. Big fan of like, you know, definitely become a really big fan of last few years. Like Denzel Washington. I loved Training Day. I thought Safe House was pretty cool. Malcolm X Really good. I got I saw like years ago, I end up buying a Blu ray of that, but there wasn't a whole lot of good stuff. I like The Equalizer movies with them, you know, some drama stuff. Like I mentioned The Green Book, that was a really good film. And Viggo Mortensen and I wish I remember the the actor, the guy that is driving around in the Deep South. But that was a really good movie because it just mentioned Inherent Vice. Excellent Joaquin Phenix were really fun. It just made me laugh. Tears from hilarious scenes in it, you know? Yeah, the all the controversy. I actually like a bunch of the Marvel movies. I like that that you see movies. I don't care. I like what I like. And I think it's just funny that these people get all mad I think is jealousy. But I think those movies are all. They're fun. Are they all great? No, I don't think all of them are great. I don't rush out to buy them. I like the Avengers movies. I thought the Captain Marvel movie was kind of fun. I like the Henry Cavill Superman films. I love The Birds of Prey, you know, the Harley Quinn movies. Those are all fun. Black Widow is pretty decent. Black Panther was okay. I liked The Doctor. Strange movie, but, you know, I just like a lot of different stuff around. Like, everything from, like, really low budget video things from my bottom of the barrel, which is not meant to be an enjoyable ballet. Movies like Fuck the Devil one and Two, which are like beyond almost no budget Germans right on video, which I'm happy that it came out Thank you Bleeding skull and it was edgy after I hope I'm saying it right because I don't have the reference on me right now, but everything from that up to like multimillion dollar budget films, to me that was great stuff. I love all the Star Wars movies, you know? Are you all you want? These are whatever. It's an opinion because the whole trilogy is the best, you know. But anyways, I love star Trek films. I'm targeting, you know, going back to the original crew, to the next generation crew to, you know, the one that's supposed to be an alternate reality. I think those are great. And I hope there's been rumors that they're doing a new one. I hope they do. But when I was a kid, of course, the first thing that really shaped what I am, how I am and all the things that I'm into was Star Wars man. Back in 1977, my mom took me. It was just it blew my mind. And I was the first thing I really opened me up. That really is when I really like. And I was obsessed with Star Wars. I used to come as a wanted, although I even had the Blaster addicted come up to me on a bus a long time ago was like 80, 81. What's your name? And so low still like to see that. But you know, I go because my mom, she had a job, but it was just my mom and my little brother and sister, I should say little sister, little tiny brother's. He was really a little tiny guy. I'd come home and I'd watch Star Trek every day and I was in a Buck Rogers and Battlestar Galactica versus, Flash Gordon with my best friend. The time I read a couple few different best friends in my life. The name was William Jones was a good kid who used to play Star Wars all the time, every single day. Man, I hope he's doing good wherever he is. I was obsessed. Star Wars and there's ongoing bias. Or one day when I watched the Flash Gordon movie that came on the 80 and I love that movie, I actually got it on DVD and Blu ray are the reason why I haven't gotten the DVD is because as cool Jack or Art entered of Ming the Merciless, I'm like, I might get rid of that and I don't care. There's like a new new on Arrow. Put it out a while ago and I keep mentioning Arrow, but I have a lot of other stuff. I've been building up this big ass Arrow films collection. Kind of expensive, but great stuff. Hopefully they'll have another big sale on Christmas. The really Western collection. I want to go really bad averaging around a while back, but it seems like it has been on sale, so I'm waiting on that because I'm a huge fan of spaghetti westerns and I will probably do an episode about those one these days. So yeah, all that stuff. And then when I get in a drawing and when I was a kid, I didn't start out with superhero stuff. I started out with like my uncle would let me look at his creepy, eerie vampire gorilla, the rook, that kind of stuff. You know, the old Warren Publications as well. I'd love to win the lottery to buy all of it. I love that stuff. But then he got me into, you know, Heavy Metal magazine, The Art of Chris Force. I used to have a Chris force, a little soft bound book, and I lost it. But anyways, now my sister and Kenny recipes. Her dear partner in life is a great guy. I miss him a lot, man. But the one near Christmas that got me a Chris force huge Chris Fox book and I mean I was really touched. I was like the same night I got like a Batman 66 to 68 TV series. I had it one of the this was screwed up and I sold it to a friend of mine and he said that word. But anyways, I love Chris, Fosse's art huge fan. I loved Egor, my favorite artist. I love Brahm. I admit I'm not a giant fan of Morris, Me, Runaway brides and all these great artists, don't get me wrong, But the Julie Bell, there's a lot of artists out there, you know, H.P. Lovecraft. I was reading a lot of his stuff at the Heist Awards. My God, I could tell you whole story about the high school bullying and all that garbage. But anyways, I read Stephen King and Clive Barker, early. Clive Barker, Random stuff. James Herbert You know those rat books that he wrote? Man, those are great. The whole lot of different stuff, you know, first Mad Max two and you know, I mentioned that last episode post because I was a big influence. I'm a sci fi horror sci fi, straight forward science fiction. I like hard science fiction stuff like, you know, The Martian and ad. Astra Well, Darwin's a little bit far fetched aways, Gravity, I think all those movies are great. I could watch that. I could watch Monsters and Aliens in it. I'm just really tired right now. I thank you again, Tim, and I'm definitely going to be doing more episodes. Yeah, I have a very funny. Yes. But you know, like if we're wrong in another episode, we'll see. You never know whether the next episode is going to be it's either going to be me and blah blah, blah, blah, blah. So if you're still there, like you were listening, I'll talk more about slasher films, horror films, whatever that holds. John Ray Another episode that I'm sure I forgot a lot of films, there's a lot more, but I don't have the references right now because I'm downstairs in my kitchen and I got the heater on or the stove on. So thermostat is not work, but comedy is a really big thing in my life too. You know, before I end up going, I want to mention I love comedy. I'm a huge fan of a lot of comedians. I love Dolemite, the Rudy Ray Moore stories about that guy. I love, love, Love of love, that guy of the movies. Lowest comedy, George Carlin, Bill Hicks. Andy Kaufman is definitely one of my Jedi masters. All of it. And Mitch Hedberg, Richard Pryor. there's a whole bunch. And apologies to the ladies. I know there's some great lady female comedians other than me. Before I go on the subject of female comedians, I think it's funny that apparently there are many men out there that are intimidated by funny women. I am not. I always hope that if I ever it's probably never happened. But you never know. I mean, crazy things have happened. Miracles happen. But I always open the door. Ever meet my dream lady that she's funny, you know, because I think it's sexy. What is wrong with a funny lady, man? You know, in some grumpy, snobby, you know, no sense of humor. Can't laugh about anything rude, all mopey bullshit. That's not what I'm into. I would like happy, but I'm a huge fan of Monty Python's Flying Circus. I love those guys so much. I love Fawlty Towers. I hate to sound like a poser and admit that I've not seen enough Benny Hill, but the little bit I've seen I love. I love the comic strip presents. Those guys are geniuses. The ones that did bad news, the parody heavy metal band. They also ended up some of those guys went on to do the young ones, which another kick ass greed. But there's fricking tons of great, exquisite British comedy. I love that stuff so much. Big influence on my life. There's so much great fun stuff out there and it is the basis of my shows. I want to talk about crazy, fun, cool, wild stuff that makes me happy, keeps me going. You know, I'll probably do a whole episode dedicated to cats because I love cats. I like all animals, but especially I love cats. I got my kids here. I love them. God, all my friend. It really is Kitty here. My buddy Jr and I are taking care of. She's a cute little brat yet has a walker here. So thanks for listening to this. I'm sure we'll get a set up that you could like send me comments or whatever other would be really cool. Appreciate it. Any feedback? I appreciate that very thankful that my buddy Tim for the opportunity to do this because I've been wanting to do a podcast for a while and I'm just really happy that now I get the opportunity and I'm going to be doing many more episodes. So yeah, until next time, stay sick, take scare, Don't forget to change your underwear. And as always, and as I've been saying for a very long time, keep the filth and we'll see you. Well, we'll pretend like we get to see you next time on the on the podcast of 1984. Bye bye.
